Click on the names to display / hide the details.
Click on ( most ) any of the thumbnail photographs for a larger image.
NB: If we have any details on the artistes playing this week their 'info entry' will be shown by default.
A Special Mention XI - 27/08
Many thanks to everyone who put in the effort for our OXJAM sessions evening!
A bit of a disappointing turnout, but then again it was the start of a bank holiday, the SW4 festival on the Common, not to mention the Notting Hill and Reading festivals etc.. etc.. Definitely the one thing that didn't disappoint was the music! Great performances from all and a thoroughly entertaining evening for those who were there, just wished we'd raised more money for OXFAM and that the artistes efforts had been better rewarded.
Currently taking a break!

| Adam Bennett
"...Adam has been writing songs for the past two years, incorporating different influences such as The Who, Green Day, Oasis, Dave House, and Frank Turner. Since March 2009 Adam has extensively played across the South East of England playing gigs from Brighton to Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, including playing the legendary Blag Club in Notting Hill. The coming years promise to be busy for Adam as he releases ''The Damage Is Done'' EP and will no doubt have more gigs to look forward to. ..." Adam. Excellent tunes... The Coach. | Adam Boucher
"...Hi. My name is Adam. My surname is pronounced bow-cher, like voucher. Americans seem to have the most trouble understanding this. I hate band/artist biographies written in the third person, when they're clearly written by the artist (who is usually doing the website and all the promotion too). I myself have been guilty of this in the past, but no more! I play either solo acoustic or with my ace new full on electric band as Adam Boucher & The Dead Set. I call what I do Shoutyfolk, because apparently you have to give it a name so dullards can reference you. Oh yeah, and I'm from Bournemouth but now based in London. Yay!..." Adam. Annalie
'...Like most people I'm full of good intentions, insanely talented and criminally lazy. Neurosis eats at me like a sandwich. Music seems like a great way to earn a living, think I'll do that. Perhaps I could inspire people to discover a sense of humour in every dark and painful situation. Or just make a nice noise...' | Barrington Mozart
"Barrington Mozart was born many years ago, in a fairaway land, known to the locals as 'fookin barra'. In another way, he has always been here. To put it another way, he's a half-reality, existing inside a seemingly abnormal other bloke. Maybe he doesn't exist at all, and is merely the figment of an overactive imagination. But he has a myspace page, and in this day and age - to all intents and purposes - he is here. Recently relocated to the madlands of London, he has been writing and playing his own songs for many, many years. He wants to create music with Dylan-esque social commentaries, Marley-esque messages of peace, and a general feeling that music can't change the world, but it can show people something very, very important. And people have always been able to change the world. Sometimes they just need a spark...." B.M. More can be found on myspace |

Constantino Panza
"I don't know where I am, where I live, what I'm going to do ... But I'm quite sure, I know what I need ... I need to compose music, I need to play my guitar, I need to sing, I need to communicate with the most people I can. When I recorded these songs I played all the instruments, and now I'm performing a very unusual acoustic show everywhere I can play. I just have an indie rock band, The Junkle, my first mokey-friend in this space! so ... this is all guys ... listen to the tunes and discover the rest! ... and then, if you want, tell me what the rest is for you! ... enjoy!" ... | Christina Marie
"...Born in Bournemouth, Christina Marie is a classically trained singer and cellist now living in London. Her talent has always been divided between composing songs at the piano and playing the cello, though it wasn't until she started teaching herself the guitar at the age of 18 that her songs began to develop an "entirely unique style and sound". Over the past couple of years Christina Marie has grown into a band, with Nic and James on double bass and cajon / percussion, and every now and then different musicians/soldiers join the little three piece..." Elini Mylona
Eleni Mylona, born and raised in Cyprus, first started singing folk and traditional Greek music at the age of sixteen. During her university studies in Athens, she reached the finals of the Na I Eukairia music competition in 2001 after which she began working as a professional singer. She has had the privilege of singing with famous Greek artists including Yannis Spanos, Viki Mosholiou, Anastasia Moutsatsou and Andonis Mitselos and also fronted the group Para thin Alos for two years. Eleni then moved to Spain, where she was introduced to Flamenco culture. Upon her return to Athens, she brought this musical influence with her, singing at a Flamenco performance in 2006. That same year a collaboration occured with Morfo Tsaireli, singing backing vocals on her latest album. Eleni is currently studying music at the London Centre Of Contemporary Music in London where she had the opportunity to explore the London music scene. Her work is consisted so far of her performances both as an individual performer ( collaborated with brazilian guitarist EdO Portugal for 2 years ), as well as a session singer - worked as a backing vocalist for Michelle Escoffery. Last May was her debut as a solo artist, presenting for the first time her own original material, and mixing wonderfully sounds from all over the world. At the moment, she continues to work on her own music and experimenting with different styles including world, funk, jazz and flamenco music. A refreshing set of spanish / continental music. Jack Alexander
"Jack Alexander was born over a hundred years ago to a small but determined group of barber shop singing Pirates, who raised him on a diet of Doo- Wop, Rum, Judy Garland, Buddy Holly and the Devil. When he was 12 years old the Pirates sold his fingers for a new microphone for the Barber Shop act which, in a brutal display of irony, they had him hold whilst they performed in every filthy dock under the blue sky. It was around this time that Jack discovered the guitar and wrote his first song (which, whilst mostly being a combination of a guitar being punched and a young Jack howling "NOOOO!!", showed real promise) and decidced he would abandon the Pirate lifestyle, re-grow his fingers, and chase after the acoustical dream.... Nowadays, his songs combine a whole delicious range of styles, whilst still betraying that pirate influence- jumping from lilting introspective folk song to swashbuckling sea shanty to cabaret breakdown to punk rock catawauling all often in the space of a few seconds. Live, Jack tends to move amongst the audience, inviting all to bellow along with him till their eyes bulge with tears of joy, fear and effort... He is looking to play his songs as much as possible until the fingers he stole from a bewildered German Ukelelist decide to betray him and leave him with no purpose. More can be found on myspace |

Jason Hart
Jays debut E.P is an indie-infused-alt-country affair, with beautiful melodies and gospel choirs with Jay singing words that come laden with meaning and tug at the heartstrings. One listen and there's every chance you'll be hooked. This was definitely the case for fledgling producers Matt Ingram and Dan Cox, who locked themselves , Jay and various musicians away for days at a time at Urchin Studios in Londons' East end, with a pile of old microphones, an old creaky piano and half a dozen new songs. The album, entitled "Time on our hands" will be released later this year. It's easy to hear the influences from Jays time as a touring guitarist for Spiritualized, Crystal Radio, The Orange Lights and currently female country singing legends Billy Jo Spears and Stella Parton. The E.P due for completion in Dec 2009, is due for release in March 2010 More can be found on myspace |

J.D.Smith is a London based solo Blues/Punk/Rockabilly slide player who has been trying for the past 8 years to bring Rockabilly back from the brink and allow this amazing music to gain a larger audience. Having stayed outside of the Rockabilly scene (but some very enjoyable times within), where Rockabilly music has found itself very much alive but stuck, J.D. has played in venues that include the Luminarie (in support of Wanda Jackson) the Barfly (upstairs and downstairs), the Fly, Purple Turtle (Camden), the Cafe de Paris, the Dublin castle, the Hope and Anchor, the Bull & Gate, the Notting hill arts club and the 12 Bar Club. "My name's Jimbo, and I'm a singer songwriter from London. I've been gigging in and out of bands for about 5 years now, and am 18yrs old. Whenever people hear the term 'singer-songwriter', it's only natural to release a loud sigh of exasperation, as the stereotype seems to be the lonely figure who can't get over breaking up with their girlfriend 5 years ago...this is WRONG! Have a listen to my songs, and see what you think! It's been a while since I've been on myspace, and am happy to be back for as long as I can manage with my technological savagery! Enjoy!..." John Moukarzel
Born in Ghana from a Syrio-British mother & a Lebanese father, John Moukarzel lived 11 years in Africa before moving to Syria in 1990. A few years later, he graduated from Esmod (Ecole Superior De La Mode), Degree in Fashion Design. Due to his talent and results, he was offered a teacher training (where he moved) at Esmod Paris. He was then sent to Esmod Jakarta, Indonesia, to start his new job as a teacher and has been living there till 2007. John Moukarzels life trail therefore reveals mixed cultural influences that can be felt in his music, which he has been learning since the age of 6. He actually admits that he never understood why he has always dreamed of becoming a singer/musician. Its a gift from God he says about his passion, that flows in his blood. John loves dancing too, at such point that he even can't help dancing during his courses... in order to catch the attention of his students! But music & singing are his main goals, and thats the reason why he started to compose at the age of 16, alone in front of a piano. His tracks are driven by pain and suffering that he has experienced. And, to John, the only way to get out of this sadness is by expressing it and letting it all out, which is inform of music and singing. He actually believes that no one can call himself an artist if he hasnt experienced such pain and struggles which are the necessity and urge of creation & expression.John Moukarzel likes, however, to describe his music as visual & sensual. That's the best way to express his emotions, and singing is so anchored in his soul. In 1999, John Moukarzel set a band called Euphoria, which ended becoming very successful in Syria, and as a leader of the band, that experience helped him to master both composing, programming, mixing, recording, arranging & producing. Nowadays, John Moukarzel is about to release his debut solo album, the poppy No Love Like Mine. And the road to fame has started quite well, since his first single has already been tested by the number one biggest main Indonesian radio station, Prambors FM... Dance With Me has reached the top No 1 position in the charts and has remained in the Top 8 for 10 straight weeks! No one therefore doubts of John Moukarzel's coming success, which eventually will be the reward of so many years of intense work, rehearsal & recording (in his home studio). John Moukarzel is actually such a perfectionist & sensitive artist, and his appetite for knowledge & experience is so intense, that he should deserve such bright future. Well, thats what all his new fans are hoping for, now. A very cool evenings entertainment. What a great voice ... The Coach. More can be found on myspace |

Jonny Alford
"I started recording early. There's a tape of me playing 'Peggy Sue' aged 3 years old. It's not as smooth as Buddy Holly's version, I had quite a gruff voice for a 3 year old. I kind of bark the words. I studied at Coventry and then at Birmingham. Coventry being the inspiration for the song 'Wainbody Ave' - it was the road that led to the college and it had the freakiest trees all the way up it. The ones that have had the branches cut thick and straight so they look awkward and stunted yet strangely imposing... At Birmingham I played a lot of Gamelan music, which is good for the soul and gentle on a hangover. My debut album 'Escape From The Requiem' is available now...." Jonny. Marysa Taylor
"...Her early musical aptitude is not surprising when one considers the musical backgrounds of her parents: her mother was a vocal and piano teacher, and her father played guitar and sang along side her mother in her parent’s church music group....Jazz, Classical, Soul and R&B came to life. In between her shows, she continued to sing in church, for local events, weddings and charity functions. Marysa’s focus then shifted to writing and recording original music. She began collaborating with a local musician/producer Damien Heck. This new chapter in her life introduced her new found passion for lyric and song writing. Her drive and musical ambitions soon led her to London, England where she is now exploring her musical abilities to the fullest potential and seeking out London’s dynamic music scene. Great 'self penned' music and lyrics and an equally great voice. "...At 10 years old I learnt to play La Bamba on the guitar, my very first tune that haunts me to this day at drunken parties. I’ve been writing songs since I knew nursery rhymes existed, but it was when I learnt to strum the guitar that I really tried to express myself through music. Now at 24 years old and a year of living in London, I ride the tube, stroll the busy streets and collect those floating words whilst waiting for Jools Holland to call me and ask if I can play on his show... meanwhile I've played at The Cross Kings, The Windmill and The Spice of Life and I regularly perform at open mic nights all over London..." "...I like to sing! Singing is something that can transform my mood and make me feel like I’m letting go of any tension – very therapeutic! I don’t know - maybe you could liken it to flying or something because that’s kind of how it makes me feel, totally free… - I also really like to perform which gives me a sort of warm fuzzy feeling inside! - As someone who enjoys singing, I love the fact that I always have my instrument with me. Whether I’m on the bus, or in the car or at work - in the rain or at home wrapped up warm, my instrument is always with me and so I can use it, and I do! Look out for me singing on busses in London! Among many other things I also like to write my own songs. If you have a little spare time, have a listen to the ones on my page. You might like them; you might hate them but thanks for listening in any case - have a wicked day!...." Qx. What a voice Queeny, and nice playing Matthew Jones... The Coach. | Remfry Dedman
"...For a very long time I wanted to be an actor. After a long soul-searching whiskey induced new year I realized that it wasn't really going anywhere. Depressed, I wrote a song about it. It wasn't a very good song admittedly, but it got me to thinking...and here I am. These songs are very personal, often tragic, sometimes funny deep ruminations into the soul, many little reconstructions of that drunken new years if you will. I post them here and play them live in the hope that they will connect with other people. If you feel an attachment with any of my songs than this is a way to let me know. The music in my head is often on a massive quasi-orchestral scale. I try to turn the ideas in my head into real songs using just a guitar and my voice. All future tour news, blogs and material will be posted on here as and when it becomes available. Stay in touch. Music is a communication...this is an open channel. {}..." Remfry. Good tight sound, professionally presented. Very watchable. "...How would I describe our sound, you ask? Just have a listen and see what you think. Ok, well then I'd tell you that in our songs we do try and fuck it up a bit with some emotional kick. There's a surprising amount of angst here for men (or are they caged animals?) in their late 20s and we try and inject a bit of that into the tunes. Speaking for myself, I love different textures and if we've managed to mix that into a few good rock riffs, listenable melodies and a rocking beat I'll be happy...." Tan. | Simon Garrard
Simon Garrard is a singer/songwriter from London who blends his moving, often anti-establishment lyrics with his alt-folk music. Originally from Surrey he moved to Australia where he started gigging seriously around Melbourne after his first performance at the Old Bar on Brunswick Street. His time down under honed his laid back acoustic style but his lyrics retained their bitter poetry. On his return to England and university in London, Simon played with various bands but eventually settled playing with a Gloucester based band, Vital Logistics. In between work and festival slots with Vital Logistics, Simon found time to record in Inflight Studios with Charlie Khan and so the Dirty Hands E.P was formed. A support slot at the Betsey Trotwood followed and now the search is well and truly begun to find gigs to showcase Simon's new material... Great entertainment... The Coach. Tarrbaby
Without a doubt this is a session that must be watched. A solo artist creating skilful compilation of real time sampling gives not only an amazing finished number but the tune / song is quality. "...Tarrbaby is singer and instrumentalist Jonny Tarr. His music is a live funkjazzdancegrooves thing with honest soul-inspired vocals. It's old-school future music.." Jonny Tarr. Toddlanders
The Toddlanders were formed in 2001, in a bucket near Skipton, North Yorkshire. They consist of therubsley, guitarist and lead vocals, some dough on drums, Michael Entwhistle (nee Portillo) on bass guitar, and an unorthodox swan on bassoon. They are often accompanied by a variety of additional instrumentalists, including Diego Arenales (wooden spoons and tongue) and the semi-legendary octopus doctor's brother, Caliper Jones. Monk tits has been known to make an occasional guest appearance, though not since about December 2003, when he sadly passed away. More can be found at myspace. |

| V.A. Edwards
A popular solo artiste at the Coach and Horses. A mixture of blues and rock. Mostly self-penned but also some excellent covers. This is one to watch! "...Missed thrill of the stage and all that goes with it. Hit the open mics with the acoustic to pay a new round of dues. Getting good feedback on the tunes and live slots. Got virtual on myspace. Offers of returns and longer sets. Sanity in check. Always looking. Always learning..." Vince. More can be found at myspace |

Young Georgian Lolitaz
"...Nika Korcharov is so charming that his gigs in Tbilisi filled with young girls describing themselves to him as Georgian Lolitas… He named his band in their honour. Not surprisingly it became Georgia’s No 1 pop group from 2004 onwards. Too multi-talented for his own good, he creates not only the music, but also the band’s videos. Obviously needing to expand horizons, but stuck down the remote Caucasus in a country famous for declaring war on Russia, they put their songs up on MP3unsigned.com. Again, not surprisingly they found their song ‘Star’ voted ‘Track of the Year,’ and themselves ‘tipped for stardom’ as well as nominated for ‘Best Band of the Year.’ Now Nika is launching his album in the UK - as the first ever band from Georgia to debut here. It can be no coincidence that Nika’s father’s band ‘The Blitz’ toured England in 1989-94 and was voted in Liverpool as best Beatles tribute band of 1989. It Russia, its most famous rock critic (and former editor of Russian Playboy), Artyom Troitsky was once asked what he thought of Franz Ferdinand. ‘Yes,’ he replied, ‘they are good, but there much better bands in the former USSR, such as Young Georgian Lolitaz...." | Yuya
Constance and Eliseo met at a fancy dress wedding that ended in tragedy... So they thought to write about happy moments of acute sadness, disappointment and twisted emotions. The Yuya are groovy people and the music shows it. They are into parties and the music shows it. Their influences are untraceable but one thing is sure, they are very refreshing. For a duo, with only a guitar, the sound is big and unexpected. Constance voice is something I thought became sadly extinct in 1969 but I was wrong; to the sound of her voice you will melt.
